On World Suicide Prevention Day, Iowa’s MHDS Regions want you to know that helping someone who may be suicidal can be as easy as having a conversation. If you believe a loved one is contemplating suicide, encourage them to call the Your Life Iowa Crisis Line at 855-581-8111 or text 855-895-8398.

•Share your concerns
•Repeatedly offer chances to talk
•Ask if they have thoughts about suicide or harming themselves
•Don’t dismiss their feelings
•Don’t promise to keep secrets if someone is considering harming themselves or others
•Offer to connect them with help

Today we were joined by Sonja Ferrell from the Ottumwa Public Library and Ali Wilson from United Way of Wapello County. They are so excited to bring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to Wapello County. This program provides a child with a book each month from birth to five years. The program started in Dolly’s hometown in 1995 and expanded to other communities in 2000. In 2020 the program gifted its 150 millionth book!! 📚

Thanks to some amazing community partners, the program will officially kick off with a story walk in Central Park on September 8. Sign the children in your life up for the program online or at the library.
